Can anyone participate in the Climb?
The Event is only open to firefighters and NYPD/PAPD officers.
Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers must be fully fit to compete; proof of Medical fitness to compete may be required by the organizers.
Minimum age for entry is 18 years on the day of the event.
To be eligible to compete in the New York City Firefighter Stair Climb participants must be currently employed or volunteer in the active role of a firefighter. Retired firefighters may also compete as long as they can supply approved FFG for themselves.
Firefighters may be employed in any Fire Service, Airport Rescue Fire Brigades, Industrial Brigades, and Rural Fire.
Competitors from overseas must be currently employed or volunteer in a recognized Fire Service in the active role of firefighter, and on request be able to supply proof e.g. Fire Service Identification.
Firefighters will be competing in approved structural Firefighting Full turnout Gear (FFG).
At this time due to limited availability, the law enforcement categories are only open to NYPD and PAPD members (currently employed or retired).
Firearms are not permitted inside 4WTC.

Is there a capacity on Climbers?
Yes, at this time there are only 343 spots for firefighters, 37 for PAPD, and 23 for NYPD.
How much does it cost to climb?
$90 entry fee + $5.49 processing fee through Eventbrite
Is the Climb timed?
There is no longer a formal distinction between participants who choose to race or walk. Each Climber will be given a race bib with a timing chip attached. Its up to you if you will walk or race.
Will Climbers be On Air?
There is no "On Air" category. Donned only – wearing SCBA only – mask removed from SCBA - is the only option. SCBAs will be available on site.
How can I climb for a specific firefighter or law enforcement officer killed on 9/11?
Each Climber will be randomly assigned a member of the 343 FDNY, 37 PAPD, or 23 NYPD. On your registration form you may request an additional member you would like to specifically climb for.
Is fundraising required?
Fundraising is not required but strongly encouraged. We challenge each Climber to raise $1 per floor.
How do I fundraise?
Each Climber will have the opportunity to set up a Fundraising page through CrowdRise.
You can create a team and raise funds as a group or join as an individual and raise funds on your own.

Can I record my Climb?
GoPros and Recording/Photo devices of any kind are NOT allowed in the stairwell of 4WTC.
What time does the Climb start?
Details on check-in will be provided closer to event date. Check-in will likely begin by 8:00AM on Sunday, March 19, 2017.
Each Climber will be assigned to 1 of 3 heats. Each Heat will have a staggered start time and include approximately 150 Climbers. Heat information will be provided to each Climber prior to event day.
Where do I go on March 19?
Specific information will be provided prior to event day. A government issued Photo ID and Department ID is required to enter the building. All bags will be subject to search by 4WTC security - please limit the amount of personal items you bring.
Can my family and/or friends come?
Due to security restrictions at 4WTC, only registered Climbers may enter the building. An area nearby will be designated for family and friends. A live stream of the climb will be available at the designated area as well as online.
How can I support the Climb if I’m not a firefighter?
The Climb would not happen without the support of individual donations and sponsors. You can donate to the Climb through PayPal - don't forget to add "NYC Stair Climb" as a note in the Special Instructions to the Seller section at the top of the donation form.

What is the schedule of events?
The schedule of events is still to be confirmed. Below is an estimated schedule that will be confirmed closer to event day.
- On Sunday, March 19th all Climbers will begin check-in at 8:00AM
- Opening ceremony will take place at 8:45AM
- Climbers will begin their ascent at approximately 9:30AM with the last group being launch at approximately 12:00PM
- Awards will be given at the Post-Climb party held immediately after the climb
- And don’t forget the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade is on Friday, March 17, 2017
